BANKRUPTCY – Getting Started
Free Initial Consultation
Congratulations on your decision to take control of your finances and to start the bankruptcy process. This process can be complex and time consuming, but the sooner you get started, the sooner you will be free from harassing phone calls and the threat of repossessions, foreclosure, and potential lawsuits; and the sooner you will be on your way to financial freedom.

At JPS, we have experience in helping debtors navigate the complexities of this process. We can help you make the initial determination as to whether bankruptcy is the right option for you, and, if so, what bankruptcy chapter is the right chapter for you to file under.  If you retain JPS, we will counsel you on the entire process and what you can expect.  We will work with you to collect and organize all the required information for your bankruptcy petition.   The bankruptcy petition requires the attachment of multiple detailed documents.   With the information you provide us, we will complete and file these documents for you.   We will counsel you on the role of the trustee and what you will need to provide to the trustee.  We will meet with you before the Creditors’ Meeting to help you understand what to expect, and we will attend the Creditors’ Meeting with you.  Depending on the complexity of your particular case, we can assist you in whatever matters that my come up in your bankruptcy case, including such things as stripping the lien from your second mortgage, responding to creditors' objections to the plan, responding to creditors attempts to get a waiver of the automatic stay, etc.

The first step in this process is simple, and it is free. In order to get started, you will need to provide us with certain information concerning your finances, your income, your expenses and your property. Once we receive this information, someone from our office will contact you to discuss the details of your particular case and to discuss whether bankruptcy might be the right choice for you. In the meantime, it will be important that you collect certain information and supporting documentation that we will need in order to file your bankruptcy petition. If you decide to pursue a bankruptcy with us, you will be assured of quality, professional service by a licensed California bankruptcy attorney. Our rates are reasonable, and we have payment plans available for those who might need it.
